In life your mother in law is difficult; in death, she's impossible. When her husband is missing cop Sara Zindel, must team up with a new partner, the ghost of her mother in law, to find her missing husband and destroy a human trafficking ring.
Sara Zindel, a LAPD homicide cop, had always hated her meddling mother-in-law; now that the woman is dead, Sara thinks her problems are solved. The only trouble is the elder Mrs. Zindel has come back to haunt her daughter in law and decides that she will help with Sara’s investigations. No one but Sara, it seems, can see her. Oy, what a sight.
Her son Solly (no Mom, Sol!! Well he’ll always be Solly to me) has disappeared from the crash that killed Fanny. Who better to find a son than his mother? Who better to take care of him—certainly not his recently converted wife.
Sara does everything she can to get rid of her mother in law to no avail. Meanwhile the clues are leading her to believe Sol’s disappearance has something to do with the murder case she was working on before her captain ordered her to take leave.
Fanny continues to harp on Sara’s housekeeping and how terrible a wife she must have been – otherwise why would Solly run away! Frustrated, Sara realizes that she must tolerate her mother in law at least until Sol is found. Maybe then the ghost will take it’s well deserved rest.
Several messages are left for Sara ordering to quit the investigation or else…”I’ll or else them,” Fanny says.
At a lavish party by Ion Nicholson, the center of the Russian mob, Sara finds an address and her husband’s calculator but then must flee before she is found out.
Barefoot, she hobbles back to the station. Her partner is no where to be seen.
Benson, another detective, who has not believed Sara’s wild story about human trafficking finally agrees to go along with Sara’s idea to confront them only to nearly get killed herself and then to find out that several of her fellow officers are in on the pay off.
With Fanny’s help, Sara escapes from her house just as the captain comes to stop here. The address she had found at Ion’s is on the bayside in Ventura.
Sneaking aboard the yacht, she is quickly discovered and has to rely on Fanny to help her out of the locked cabin.
The officers and the traffickers are confronted by the Coast Guard as Fanny tricks them into revealing their position
Thank goodness Sol is still alive. You mean he can’t see Fanny? Nope. And Fanny has decided that she is staying around to make sure Sara makes him some good matza ball soup.
