Synopsis
A fact checker for a small town newspaper is given the opportunity to fill in for one of the regular columnists, but things get complicated when he falls for the girl in the neighboring cubical.
"Big Break" is a romantic comedy set in a small midwestern town.
Its the story of a fact checker at a small newspaper, Mark Flowers, trapped in his day to day routine, trying to become a writer, find love, and cope with his constant internal monologue.
Jenna, the girl in the neighboring cubical, could be the answer to all three of these problems, but in pursuing her he finds that things aren't that simple.
Around the same time he's offered an opportunity to co-write an article on a big high school football player, but this means working with the regular sports writer, a clingy guy named Jeff, who has a serious man-crush on Mark.
These things coupled with other pressures like his second job delivering pizza, a neighbors dog that won't stop barking, and his general distain for other people push Mark way out of his comfort zone.
The story ends with Mark quickly going from his lowest point, rejected by Jenna and realizing he's misjudged her, to his highest point when by chance he sits next to an awkward girl who confesses that she hates dancing because she never knows what to do with her arms. We see that the new girl and Mark are basically made for each other and that things are looking up.
All in all its a story about being twenty, with a message that things usually aren't as dire as they seem.
This is my third draft. I've received a lot of great feedback from Talentville citizens and hopefully I'll get some more for this draft.
