Simplify it a bit and you're golden.

Howdy, Bernard. It looks like I'm reviewing another pilot of yours and let's just get this out of the way: You never write anything bad. I'm starting to think you might not be capable of such a thing. Like the Cure never made a bad album, you might have a misstep a time or two, but overall you do some solid work. Having said that, this isn't my favorite script of yours. I'm not saying it's bad, I don't think you're capable of writing a bad script. I'm just saying, if I'm a producer and I have one series I can option from you, it's gonna be...

NOT SAFE FOR WORK

Nope, not safe.

Well, Colin, I'm going to take a wild leap and assume that if I told you that after reading Not Safe for Work I felt like I needed a bactine bath and a tetanus shot, you'd take it as a compliment. The whole time I read this, I pictured a show with those sticky, low fi Troma production values displayed in all their lurid glory. CONCEPT: The closest thing I can compare this to is Workaholics, which was a show I desperately wanted to not like but grew on me like a melanoma the more I saw of it. I don't know if cancerous growths are the exactl...

Space Race is well on its way

Howdy Lyndon. After reading your outline, I almost felt like I'd already read this script starting out. It was very detailed, and some of the scenes in the actual script felt like they were directly lifted from it. We're not here to discuss the merits of your outline, though, we're here to talk about the first draft of the resulting screenplay. It's a fine start, better than most, and in the hands of a capable writer such as yourself it will surely shine after a bit of spit and polish.CONCEPT: The first thing I thought of while reading this was...

Out of This World

Solid draft needs some polish.

Howdy, Aram. So let's just get this out of the way right off the bat, I'm not terribly experienced when it comes to projects that are aimed at a younger audience. So anything I say, take with a grain of salt. The general rules for storytelling still apply, though, so I'll do my best.Overall, I enjoyed the read. It's clear this isn't your first rodeo and you know how to use the sitcom format. Out of This World was a smooth read for the most part, I didn't pick up on any glaring grammar or spelling errors, but everyone will tell you that's not so...

You can do better.

Hey Carey. I have to warn you, this review is going to be rough. Hold your head up, though. Writing a feature screenplay is tough, and they can't all be hit singles. Don't take everything I say at face value, other reviewers might see something radically different than I do. As for me, though, I think you're a good writer, and this is not your best work.CONCEPT: You've got a lot of concepts going on here. Too many, in fact, and they all seem to be competing with each other. You've got the skinny, meek guy trying to prove himself in the marines,...

Howdy Jonathan! So I read this whole script in one setting, which is something I almost never do. You've got a smooth, easy writing style and Danica is an interesting enough character that I wanted to know what was going to happen to her next. This is a good, solid foundation to build on.You are missing a title page, though, which doesn't hurt the script itself, but it's something that will get picked up on and ranted about. Just thought I'd warn you.CONCEPT: It's always interesting to see characters who are otherwise moral, upright members of ...

The Art of Dying Daily

Go find a crew and shoot this already

Posted: Jul 16, 2013

So Brittany, here we are again. I have some bad news for you, this review is going to suck. I think this is ready to go as it is, you could take this script and shoot a movie and have a solid little indie flick that would pick up a few awards on the festival circuit, hell, probably get enough attention that it could get a nice little theatrical run in select cities. I have no doubts about that at all. That's why this review is going to suck, there's really not a lot to say about Dying Daily as far as I can see, outside of some well-deserved pra...
