The Plantagenets - Pilot

This is the story of King Henry II of England and his wife, Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine. It is also the story of his friendship with Thomas Becket, his Archbishop of Canterbury , his fight over supremacy with the pope and his rivalry with his own ambitious sons. Henry could rule an empire, contain all rivals, extinguish all threats, write just laws, but through his own human limitations, could not control his own family.

Episode Synopsis

Young Duke Henry and his father, Count Geoffrey, come into conflict with King Louis of France. As a result, a new alliance is formed with an unlikely ally, and plans are made to make Henry the next king of England, while Louis plots to eliminate them as rivals. Geoffrey, It is 1152, the 19th year of "The Anarchy", the reign over England by King Stephen, a usurper of power, and cousin of the Empress Matilda and her son, Henry Fitzempress. At present, in Northeastern France, young Henry and his father, Geoffrey "The Fair" win a disputed territory between Normandy and Paris in battle and are summoned to a meeting in Paris with the King of France. They then meet the dissatisfied queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine, and begin plotting a new hierarchy.
