Sparrow On The Roof

Sparrow on the Roof” is a moving drama set in the world of Spanish matadors. It tells the story of David Jordan, once North America’s greatest matador, whose career ended in disgrace after a bullring accident took the life of his picador. Jailed for the death, David is prevented from tending to his terminally-ill wife who dies before David can be released. Humiliated, Jordan flees Spain — abandoning his then two-year old daughter — Delores.

Now, thirty years later, David Jordan returns to Spain to try and rekindle his relationship with his only daughter. As Jordan arrives, Delores is preparing for her “alternativa,” the bullfight that will determine whether she achieves the full rank of “Matador de Toros.” She has followed in her father’s footsteps into the sand of the corrida and pressured by her grandfather to restore the family honor which was destroyed by the tragic end of David Jordan’s career.

While David is frustrated in his attempts to reconcile with his daughter, he befriends an orphan girl who lives above his rented flat. “A Little Sparrow On His Roof.” Through his relationship with the orphan girl, he lets go of the pain from his past and gains the empathy he needs to renew his relationship with his only daughter, Delores.

The day of Delores’ alternativa arrives. She faces a monster bull and is performing masterfully, when the bull gores her - leaving Delores to bleed to death in the sand. Jordan leaps into the corrida, challenging the bull so that others may aid Delores. It turns out to be a fateful choice. A choice that tears apart one family, but allows another to come together.
