Synopsis – Southern Fate – A Legal Dramedy
Things just haven’t been quite right for Frank and his wife, Jennifer, both in and outside of the bedroom and today is no different. But a chance meeting with Al, a professional runner, who offers words of encouragement for Frank in his quest to be a top lawyer, are fortuitous when Al soon falls into an uncovered manhole and is left paralyzed.
Penny, Al’s wife, hires Frank to take on the case, but Frank makes an inadvertent mistake. This error delights the experienced and pompous defense attorney, Holst, who never misses an opportunity to remind Frank that he’s out of his league. At every turn, Holst is ready to pounce on the inexperienced Frank, but no one is more surprised than Frank -- when he wins a 30 million dollar judgment for Al.
Frank is even more surprised when he returns home to find that his wife has left him for someone else -- another woman. The phone rings. It’s not Jennifer but Ron, a network executive, who has followed the case, and recruits Frank to work as a legal commentator. Great news! Except Frank has one huge affliction -- chronic clumsiness. The only hope for his newfound success is Frank’s brother, Tools, a strapping boat captain, who believes Frank is out of step with the universe and devises a rap music exercise routine -- complete with a ridiculously dorky helmet and belt -- to help Frank develop rhythm. Frank gives the device a try.
Now in New York City, Frank’s new career as a cable news commentator sky rockets, but not without its complications, including the news chairman’s wife, Charlene, who has set her sights -- rather claws -- on the new hire, and Lindsay, a ditsy and voluptuous former juror on Al’s case who has taken to social media, raising allegations of jury misconduct, jeopardizing his $30M judgment. While Lindsay unsuccessfully continues trying to seduce Frank, Tools becomes smitten with her -- actually very smitten with her.
Used, abused, and exploited, Frank has become an invaluable rainmaker to the network. He misses his old life and even his wife. Tools comes to the rescue. And not a minute too soon. Holst jumps back into Frank’s life with pictures of Al philandering with a juror, but Al insists nothing is going on. Back at court, Holst pushes Frank’s buttons, telling Frank that he’s nothing better than a female sports reporter – just a pretty face. But Frank is more than just a pretty face -- he has fabulous abs, which are revealed when the effects of Tools’ anti-klutz device (helmet and weight contraption) are seen when Frank removes his shirt on the show’s set. Everyone is mesmerized by his amazing abs; Frank reveals he does a workout with a helmet. Ron’s interest is piqued. Everyone tries to convince Frank to sell the Ab Helmet idea, including Macey, a young woman on the patent legal team, who is winning over Frank and his heart. As the pressure mounts, Charlene steps in to push Macey out of Frank’s life.
There’s good news for Al when a special treatment enables him to walk again, but the bad news for Frank: Al has not disclosed this. As the clock ticks and negotiations heatedly continue, Holst drops dead, which is not good news for Holst, but for Frank. And Frank’s original mistake turns out for the best for Penny and Al -- and Lindsay (who turns out to be related to Penny) -- and for Macey and Frank, who celebrate their success in the Bahamas.
