MY OXFORD YEAR: The 14-year odyssey from Spec Script to Netflix summer romance

The Biz Success Story Personal Journey Filmmaking

Summary

On August 1st, Netflix will be releasing My Oxford Year (story/screenplay by Allison Burnett), and we have the honor of interviewing Allison live about the 14 year journey from spec script to produced film.

Allison is not new to screenwriting, with studio films such as Feast of LoveAutumn in New York and Underworld: Awakening among his numerous credits.

The journey of My Oxford Year started with his treatment and studio pitch, a spec sale, multiple revisions, Netflix buying it in turnaround then abandoning it during COVID, and then re-buying more recently, finally getting it produced for their streaming platform.

Watch the movie, then find out the story behind the film.

Presented by

Allison Burnett

Allison Burnett has been a working screenwriter for the past three decades, with credits such as Autumn in New York, Fame, Untraceable, and Underworld: Awakening. He has also published seven novels (Undiscovered Gyrl is my favorite), two of which became independent films -- Ask Me Anything and Another Girl -- which he both adapted and directed.
