I grew up on Spielberg, Cameron and Lucas; Disney and James Bond. Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator, The Titanic, Jaws, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Mission Impossible and Lord of The Rings. From the earliest age I was enthralled by these high stakes adventures set in far away and fantastical places. In my own work I seek to write create content that excites and engages audiences, chalked full of mystery and adventure.
On another level I just want to make people laugh. I also grew up on Monty Python, Dave Chapelle, The Simpsons, Clone High, SNL, Kids in the Hall and Trailer Park Boys. The ability to make people laugh is an incredible gift.
As I got older, I watched everything I could get my eyes on. From the biggest blockbusters of the summer to Oscar contenders and indie shorts alike. I fell in love with the works of Darren Aronofsky, PT Anderson and The Coen Brothers. I rediscovered my childhood with Miyazaki and Pixar. I also discovered long form television and was instantly inspired by the stories told by Six Feet Under, The Wire, The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, Mad Men and The Leftovers. I discovered the new emotional depths that film could take me on and wished to inspire the same emotions in others.
It may sound generic but I want my films to inspire people, to be better people, to fall in love again, with each other, with the world around them. I want them to fall in love with the story and the characters that inhabit them, to ask questions and learn. I want to tell diverse and interesting stories full of relatable and distinct characters. I am just as interested in exploring the future as I am the past - from big budget sci-fi to historical epics, hard hitting emotional dramas to high octane action comedies. I am absolutely committed to seeing my stories told on the screen.
As far as what I would hope to accomplish, it's really quite simple. I am still an amateur, unrepresented, unproduced screenwriter. I am constantly trying to improve upon my past work, come up with new ideas, and do anything I can to get my work seen. I am confident in my abilities, proud of what I have accomplished so far and am always looking ahead to the future.
