Eric Baker is a Florida-based writer, creator, and technology professional whose career has spanned more than two decades in information technology, systems operations, and leadership. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Florida State University and has also owned and operated businesses in e-commerce and media.
His background in technology and lifelong fascination with questions about reality, consciousness, and the unknown inform his approach to science-fiction storytelling. Rather than treating technology as the subject itself, he is interested in using speculative ideas to explore fundamentally human questions.
His feature screenplay WHAT WE ARE grew from one of those questions: What if humanity finally discovered the reason we're here... and the answer was nothing like we imagined?
The project explores consciousness, observation, identity, and humanity's need to understand its place in existence. Eric developed WHAT WE ARE alongside a visual proof of concept, using emerging generative-AI filmmaking tools as part of an iterative creative and development process.
WHAT WE ARE is his first feature screenplay.
