There is no reason for me to try and impress you with my background with the entertainment business that has varied with multiple roles And I am not trying to aspire to be a great or famous writer. I just listen to my muses inspirations and act upon them.
I do have notable accomplishments - off and on - for forty years, starting out as Ray Stark's assistance at Columbia Pictures on the film FAT CITY, then founding my own theatrical performance company, and receiving a documentary Telly Award.
In the early '90s it was the heyday of the "spec script" market, where I started writing "spec scripts" - compiling a total of 12 full-length features based on a broad range of genres.
Writing is my passion, reading is my past time. I like writing in the screenplay format, as well as Flash Fiction.
I've lived in Guatemala among the displaced Kechi Maya that open my mind and soul to the greater powers of Nature and Lithuania as a travel photographer and political commentary writer in a country transitioning from Soviet oppression to Western dominance and traveled much of Europe several times getting away from the American isolationists Occidental closed minded ignorance by spewing negative defiant hatred
to diminish the greater values of life's gifts, that we see prevailing our social discourse.
What i look for when reading spec scripts is the "story" - is it original and second does the "kernel" of its title/theme stick with me two weeks later, and regardless of how perfect or imperfect the formatting and grammar is, does the Helmer show potential to be empowered to keep at honing the scribe's craft.
With very script I've read and/or play through audio voice I tap into, my "mind cinema" optics imagination get that psychic hit called the "hook" that like a planted seed in the garden, if nurtured, can come to fruition.
Also, I'm unconventional and don't like to be schooled to structure and format. If you find a typo, just mentioned where it is on what page. If the dialogue could be reworked, just say give this another look - don't recommend what my characters ought to be saying. If you trash my writing, I will forgive you of your limited ignorance and shallowness in not understanding the blessing of interpersonal relationships that can unfold in constructive outcomes.
There is a learning curve for we're only as good as our last script, moreover I have read scripts from accomplished Helmers who obviously stay within the safe boundaries of formulary elements that disappoint me
And I don't enter contests and stopped going to "pitch fests" as nothing every came of it, just cash in the trash.
So if you read one of spec scripts and see potential, let me know with all honesty, don't mislead me with "I'd buy it" or "The Networks will love this" comments.
