Thivanka Perera honed his writing skills by initially studying and compiling poetry, which led to the publication of two poetry collections: “Collected Emotions (2005)” and “Elysium & other Poems (2006),” in his home country Sri Lanka. His interest gradually shifted towards writing for films and television, and as a result he attended the Limkokwing University of Malaysia to complete his Foundation course in Communication.
Thereafter he arrived in San Francisco to attend the Academy of Art, where he is currently progressing towards achieving a BFA in Motion Pictures & Television, with an emphasis on screenwriting. While being a full-time student at the Academy, he has wrote/directed various documentary projects, the latest being “For Devil’s Sake: Owls of Sri Lanka,” which was screened at the Colorado Film Festival (2015). Currently, he is a freelance writer for the San Francisco Culture Trip (culturetrip.com) and Tremr (tremor.com).
