Far removed from his years as a Navy Seal, present day, New York City, gang enforcement, detective, Cane McCormick, is a devoted and loving husband and father, to his beautiful wife, Jenny, and their two amazing children, 11 yr old, Austin and 4 yr old, Ashley.
All seems like the perfect life, until one night, the unthinkable happens. Tragedy strikes, as Cane arrives home, finding Jenny and the children brutally murdered, right in the comfort of their uptown, New York apartment. All signs indicate, that local gang members carried out the merciless acts of violence. The very same street gangs that Cane has pledged to keeping off the streets.
Cane, wishing, he would have been a victim, not a survivor, contemplates suicide at every turn, as the aftermath has left him paralyzed with depression, which continues to haunt him daily.
Six months after the gruesome discovery, Cane receives an unexpected visit from his previous, thought to be deceased, former Seal commander and best friend, Lieutenant John Styles.
Styles now serves, as the acting commander, of one of our government's most highly kept secrets. A team of highly skilled, ex military mercenaries. Their mission is to control gang violence in the inner city streets, without laws or red-tape to hinder their path of success. Their orders, "Get results, at any cost."
In a moment of vengeful weakness, and irrational thinking, while coerced with promises, that his day will come and he will have his vigilante justice, on those who destroyed his life forever, Cane willfully accepts the one-way invitation, to join the team.
Over the next several weeks, Cane continues to learn, as he observes the effectiveness and specialized talents of each of the members of this ruthless group of men. Cane, himself, has now shown his true value, being an asset and productive member of the team.
It is time and Cane's day has finally come...!
Targeted for termination, Ice, an outlawed, street punk, and notorious gang member, with a record a mile long. The same, Ice, who was labeled as one of three, directly responsible for taking away everything that Cane cherished and loved.
Early, in the dark shadows of the morning, Cane's moment for revenge awaits, as he finds himself, face-to-face, with the street thug, he calls his enemy. Cane's knife drawn, his anger overflowing and tensions running high.
Then something happens....
Cane stops short of his orders, realizing something is not right, Instinctively, Cane makes an attempt to abort the mission.
Hammer, the teams, most resistant member, ignores Cane's words, and carries through with the execution.
Through local media, it is later discovered that Cane's instincts were correct, and his team, has taken the life of an innocent boy, in a case of mistaken identity. Another innocent victim has fallen prey to the streets, and this time, Cane knows, he is to blame.
When the team is un-phased by the news, reality regains Cane's senses. He realizes he is no better than the very same street punks, who killed his family. He wants out. Only there is no out. Once you are in, you are sworn for life. Death, is the only alternative.
Defying orders and vacating the group, Cane is faced with continuous challenges of life and death, as he is back at war against the man, he once called his brother and friend, and his team of highly trained and heartless mercenaries.
Cane is forced to recall and utilize his former skills from his Seal days. The only problem is, he is slower, weaker, and physically inferior to those who track him. Experience and instinct, are his only weapon, in his hopes of survival.
Humor, heartache, suspense, and betrayal, are experienced through-out, with twists and turns, combined with the unexpected, as you are reminded, not everything is, as it seems.
