When atom bombs are dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the world is catapulted into the nuclear era. President Harry Truman, the man behind the decision to use the weapons now has a new war on his hands: The Korean War. June 25, 1950 was the day that sparked one of the most controversial periods in American history; it was the day that North Korea invaded South Korea.
The movie is a visual of the Korean War and the political conflicts that molded history. We see the political tug of war between General MacArthur and President Truman and how the struggle turned into a showdown and the implications that the result had on the world. The Korean War was a product of the failure of the military intelligence agencies and Washington D.C.'s failure to act on information. The movie also follows the experience of Lieutenant Jack Kemp as he is thrust into some of the major battles of the Korean War and how it turned him from Soldier to hero, and from hero to legacy. Additionally, we see the exploits of Maggie Higgins (female war correspondent) as she battles sexism and eminent danger to become the first female Pulitzer prize winner for her coverage of the war.
