When two swans are brought to a lake by an older couple, they join the myriad of animals on a lake, but the male swan must cope with losing his mate over this domineering traits, and all the animals learn team work is needed to save them when danger arrives in the form of a mountain lion.

The activity on the Lake is more than they imagine though. Life is great with annual races, friendships. Danger arrives in the form of low water levels which brings a cougar to prowl. Winter arrives and the old man finds a way to keep part of the lake unfrozen for the swans. Friendships develop....storms swoop down...the female swan flies off...the lake freezes...coyotes come...the male escapes capture by flying off...find his mate...in the end life returns to Lake Wannabe.
