Sci-fi Drama, Pre-watershed
An exploration of gender identity through the genre of science fiction. Parasite lives a life of repetition and inescapable loneliness. They are plagued not by and illness like everyone believes but by the constant, sickening feeling that something is fundamentally wrong with the way they are living. An encounter with someone who believes in change shakes up Parasite’s suffocating routine and gives them the opportunity to take the stone out of their shoe.
Target Audience - For this project I am looking at a very specific, niche group of people to be my audience. I did some informal research mid-way through writing where I let friends of different identities read early drafts of my script. My cisgender friends needed me to explain a lot of what was going on in the story to understand it. This really worried me and I thought about stripping it back and simplifying it, but my trans and non-binary friends felt like they could empathise a lot with Parasite, so my target audience had been found and my confidence was restored.
