Hello, I’m Scott Richards. The mystical, the magical has fascinated me ever since I first read Tolkien and other fantasy writers like Terry Goodkind and Robert Jordan. My whole life has been surrounded by people who consider themselves WICCAN. An early childhood memory I have is of a dear surrogate ‘uncle’ who used a normal deck of playing cards for fortune-telling.
MODERN MEDUSA is a fantasy feature film set in today’s world that delves into the realm of witches. Taking research from both real practitioners and those imagined in popular media, the film explores themes of “Love” and “redemption”.
The two main Characters in the story travel around exotic parts of the Mediterranean on a life or death journey to remove the very nasty Medusa’s Curse. Along the way, they both learn how to deal with personal inner turmoil that holds them back from moving on with their lives.
Confident, life loving RELLA is not a typical Romanian witch. Disillusioned with the manipulative and murderous practices of her coven, she looks to get as far away from them as she can get. She feels tremendous guilt over the things she’s done with and for them, especially to men.
DREW is a tightly wound beat cop from Chicago on forced vacation after a harrowing incident that left his partner dead and him with acute PTSD. But no matter the distance, he just can’t shrug off the trauma of what happened to him on the job.
When he meets Rella on Malta, his world starts to turn. He believes he’s found someone he can love, someone who can help him forget his past and move on.
Rella believes she’s found in Drew a man she can manipulate into helping her escape the malevolent coven chasing her and through marriage, get her green card and go to America. For her, survival outweighs the guilt she feels over using someone like that.
The love hex that Rella slips into Drew’s wallet works perfectly.
They enjoy a whirlwind romance around the Mediterranean until the Coven catches up to them at their wedding in Dubrovnik and inflicts Rella with the Medusa’s Curse. She hides her head of snakes and pushes Drew away, partly to save him, partly because he’s of no further use to her.
She sets out on her own to find a way to remove the curse. But the ingredients she needs are next to impossible to find. And the location where she needs to cast and break the curse no longer exists.
Drew never gives up on Rella. He catches up with her on Cyprus just as she attempts a dream spell to find a way to break the curse. While Drew battles the Coven’s ensorcelled minions, Rella confronts a NIGHT TERROR with the power to kill both her and Drew.
Despite growing feelings for Drew, she keeps trying to get rid of him, believing that Drew could never really love her for what she is. When Drew insists that he loves her, Rella admits to placing the love charm on him. But Drew bought a new wallet the day after they met and hasn’t carried that charm since. His love is real.
Drew’s own memories haunt him as they gather what they need, and they face certain death when the Coven ambushes them as they attempt to cast the restorative ritual.
