A young man has moved to Chicago from his family's farm life in Wisconsin to seek his own fortune and to finally find the love relationship his has always longed for. His life becomes intertwined with a young mysterious British woman suffering from permanent amnesia and with no identity after a car accident.
He claims to be her fiancé in order for the hospital to allow him to stay by her side and help with her recovery. He convinces her to return to the family farm with him until she has recovered from her injuries and regain her memory. He is torn between wanting her to be well and knowing that if she regains her memories, it could end their relationship. He continues to rely on desperate efforts to keep her in his life as she searches for her past, fearing it might take her away from him forever.
She finds out her identity and must decide what life to accept. Feeling betrayed she makes the decision to return to London with her family, unaware that her sister is planning on committing her so the sister can take over the family business it and sell it off. Her plan to leave Wisconsin changes after she is reminded that she and the young man had once met as children and they both realize their relationship has been their destiny.
