Ellison Lawrence cannot wait to finish high school. His father, Grayson, wants him to stay and take over the family ice cream business. His classmate, Barracuda "Cuda" Crapse, who has inherited his father's abhorrence for the Ellisons, races to inflict torture and abuse Ellison at every opportunity before their graduation. Though conflicted, Ellison counts down the days to leave his small Northern California town for a new life. That is, until he suffers a head injury due to Cuda's antics and is hospitalized. A concerned student, Mewheezie, visits and comforts Ellison. In pain and disoriented, Ellison roams the hallways and is miraculously introduced to his Superior Me. As Ellison's twin, in every way imaginable, Superior shares his gift of receiving premonitions. It doesn't take long for Ellison to experience the adrenaline rush when he saves a father and his baby son from their burning home. Yet, Ellison experiences severe doubts if he has the right intestinal fortitude to join Superior in the pursuit to serve others.

Hick, the town's famous professional boxer, hits rough times attracting youth to his boxing gym. While struggling to make ends meet, Grayson hires Hick to join the Creamery, and he learns the business from Ellison. One day, shocked after seeing Ellison bruised and scraped up, Hick commits to teach him boxing skills to counter Cuda's reign of terror. Though armed with defensive skills, Ellison has several interactions with Cuda where his newfound skills and Superior's invisible force joins him to defeat the demented sea beast, leaving Cuda amazed and angrier. Superior also joins Grayson, Ellison and Hick in the ice cream truck and diverts them to carry out extraordinary deeds for fellow citizens in need.

Mewheezie's relationship with Ellison turns from friendship to more caring and loving during the times they spend together. Mewheezie supports Ellison's dream to leave his father and chase his own aspirations, even if that means he will leave her as well. Yet, she is gravely concerned about Cuda's brutal suppression and stands by Ellison to protect him. Ellison's bond and friendship with Hick and Mewheezie strengthens him to withstand Cuda's vicious attacks. Though Ellison gains a greater appreciation for his magical and mysterious brother, he is often embarrassed and annoyed by Superior,

When the ice cream vats are deliberately poisoned and customers become extremely ill, the family business is shut down. Grayson pleads with Ellison to stay with him and overcome this unprecedented incident. Ellison's frustration for Superior's lack of attention and good will to prevent this tragedy boils over and drives a wedge between them. Superior explains the premonitions don't always work to prevent trials or challenges. He admonishes Ellison that times of trouble can promote strength and endurance. He asks Ellison to believe, that everything will be restored for the family's success. Hick, remembering a conversation he had before his father's death, uncovers some powerful stories about Grayson and his goodwill to society. This revelation promotes the town to come forward and bless Grayson for his love and kindness. The business is restored and the Crapse's disdain for he and his son Ellison are finally laid to rest.

Ellison is amazed regarding his father's years of charitable service. After experiencing the love and kind-heartedness of perfect strangers from every corner of the community, Ellison is struck with a monumental decision. After joining his father for an ice cream delivery, Grayson rushes to the home of the town's Crazy Doomsday Lady on a whim that she is in dire need of help. After a spectacular home explosion, Ellison fears his father is dead. Superior appears and comforts Ellison. Through the dark and thick smoke, a man with Grayson straddled over his shoulder appears and places him down before Ellison and Superior. Grayson's Superior Me tells Ellison to "Believe".
