A little girl in a flyover state once said, 'There's no place like home.' She was right, but for all the wrong reasons. Three days ago, my great-grandmother passed away, forcing my mother – Charlotte – and me to fly to the Coast and face the family at the funeral today for the first time in almost a decade. She and I have barely spoken in three years and today got off to a rough start, but we're doing alright. I should probably mention, though, that Charlotte is pretty inebriated right now. And I may or may not have hidden a gun in her purse…

Time Period: PresentStory Location: USASpecial Effects: No SFXTarget Audience: AdultWith a week to go before Christmas, Charlotte receives word from her brother that their grandmother has passed away, and Mother has requested her presence in Los Angeles for the funeral. Having moved to the Washington, DC area years before to escape her extended family's often crazy tendencies, Charlotte is understandably dreading the journey. Her anxiety is only compounded when her husband insists that she ask her estranged son, Sean, to accompany her on the trip. Surprisingly, Sean agrees, and with the aid of a few too many glasses of wine, a joint or two, and a .38 caliber pistol, the two brave the family together for the first time in almost a decade.
