The Lie That Tells the Truth: Developing a Killer Comedy Premise

Presented by Steve Kaplan

Lesson Creativity Screenwriting ABCs Storytelling Genre Related

Summary

What are the keys to writing a comedy that works? Why do some comedies work more successfully than others?

Taught by comedy guru Steve Kaplan, this class will explore the heart of a comedy--its initial premise. More than just a selling tool, or a "high concept" logline, a great comic premise is a useable, practical tool that can help lay the essential foundation for a successful screenplay or pilot.

In the first lecture in this class, Steve will teach us, in detail, the foundational building blocks that make a great premise for a comedy, and in the second session, limited to just 15 students, each participant can submit their own comedy premise or logline and Steve will analyze and critique each one in an interactive setting.  Join Steve for one or both and learn the critical skills you will need to ensure your comedy scripts are built on premises that will attract readers, not confuse them.
